Brief Professional Biography

From 2002 until his passing, Buddy was an associate professor at the University of Hawai'i (Manoa), in the College of Education, Department of Educational Technology. He did his doctoral work at the University of Texas - Austin, completing a Ph.D. in computers and English studies. He earned a master's degree in English literature from Oxford University (Bread Loaf School of English, Lincoln College), and a bachelor's degree in English (Creative Writing) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He was the author or co-author of six books and numerous articles, and he presented at many national and international conferences and workshops. Before working at Manoa, Dr. Burniske was the Director of Professional Development of the World Links program (World Bank Institute). During his time with the World Bank, Buddy traveled the globe, where he would work with teachers in developing nations as they learned to integrate educational technologies. Dr. Burniske served on the AECT International Division Board of Directors as the consulting editor for TechTrends. RICHARD "BUDDY" WILLIAM BURNISKE JR. , 46, of Honolulu, died April 20, 2006. Born in Montague, Mass. Associate professor, University of Hawai'i, College of Education, Department of Educational Technology; international education consultant and published writer. Survived by wife, Jackie; sons, Justin and Christopher; parents, Nick and Penny; brother, Vincent; sisters, Susan Diggs and Brenda Thibault. Services 6 p.m. Saturday at Punahou School, Thurston Chapel. Aloha attire. No flowers; donations to the educational or environmental charity of choice.
