Theory development in educational communication and technology is extremely difficult. Reasons include both the fieldís and educationís intrinsic complexity, the troublesome transition from descriptive to prescriptive theory, and the fast pace of technological developments. Consequently, new developments are often driven by myths and assumptions rather than evidence-informed theory. The aim of this presidential session is to discuss international perspectives on how to establish a solid research program for learning, design, and technology.
