Membership Dues Restructuring and Increase

By Steph Siddiqui posted 03-13-2024 03:09 PM

Greetings AECT Members,

We hope this message finds you well. During the last couple of years, AECT leadership and staff have focused on process improvement, system reconfiguration, and enhanced governance. The addition of the Treasurer position, along with new AECT staff, have provided AECT’s Board with an improved level of insight into AECT data, publication contracts, membership types, and finances. These insights have shown that AECT needs to revise our membership categories and dues structures to support the strategic goals and longevity of the organization.

With the above in mind, this message is to inform AECT membership that the AECT Board of Directors unanimously voted (February 1, 2024) to approve an updated annual membership dues structure.

New membership structure and rates (effective March 25, 2024)

  • Regular Members: $225
  • Students & Retired only: $125
  • International 1: $169
    • For individuals (students, regular, or retirees) residing in nations with a GDP per capita between $30,001 and $40,000 U.S. dollars.
  • International 2: $113
    • For individuals (students, regular, or retirees) residing in nations with a GDP per capita between $15,001 and $30,000 U.S. dollars.
  • International 3: $57
    • For individuals (students, regular, or retirees) residing in nations with a GDP per capita up to $15,000 U.S. dollars.

All members will now have digital access to an extensive digital library that includes significant publications such as TechTrends, ETR&D, the Handbook of Research for Educational Communication, the AECT Major Reference work, and many other great educational technology journals and books. Also members will also continue to enjoy access to the information sessions and the enhanced communication and connectivity experiences offered within Higher Logic.

Lastly, of great importance has been a goal of equitable pricing for our non-U.S.-based members which does not result in 19 different membership categories as were offered in the recent past. With this in mind, AECT will be offering three International Memberships based upon the GDP per capita of those who live outside the United States. This simplification of international membership types (for non-U.S.-based members only) will allow for better data transparency by AECT as well as ensure that only those who actively live outside the United States are provided these discounted rates.

Summary

AECT’s Board and Staff want you to know we do not take these types of adjustments lightly and are implementing these restructurings based upon AECT's strategic goals. We very much appreciate your engagement with AECT and hope that you see the positive moves to modernize how we operate. We thank both the AECT staff (new and old) and board for the tremendous amount of work that empowered us to make these decisions.

Sincerely,

AECT Board of Directors and Staff
