January 8, 2025 - The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) is pleased to announce that after an open competitive search, Dr. Jason McDonald of Brigham Young University was offered a 3-year appointment for the JAID Editor-in-Chief position effective May 20, 2024. McDonald, a Teaching Professor in the McKay School of Education at Brigham Young University, brings a wealth of experience to the role, including his previous tenure as Director of Digital Products for Deseret Book Company.
“The focus of JAID is bridging the gap between theory and practice in instructional design,” stated Chris Miller, President-elect of AECT and Professor of Foundational and Graduate Studies in Education at Moorehead State University. “I was honored to serve on the board of AECT’s Center of Excellence in Publishing, and I know that JAID is an essential part of the AECT publishing portfolio. The appointment of Jason McDonald as editor will ensure that JAID continues as one of the leading journals in the field.”
JAID emphasizes practical application in the instructional design process, featuring articles such as evaluation reports (both summative and formative), lessons learned, design and development approaches, and applied research. Articles highlight insights and advancements from real-world design and development projects rather than purely theoretical research.
“Every organization—schools, universities, companies, non-profits, military—is now a learning organization,” remarked AECT Past-President Joi Moore. “Effective instructional design has never been more essential for so many organizations. Jason McDonald has been both a practitioner and a professor, making him the perfect choice as Editor for JAID, which has instructional design as its core.”
“We are grateful that Jason accepted the position of JAID Editor,” said Nolan Gruver, CEO of AECT. “His background is a perfect match for the journal’s focus, and we look forward to seeing where JAID goes under his leadership.”
Reflecting on his new role, McDonald shared, “I am honored to have been selected as Editor of JAID. There are a lot of talented authors who submit to JAID, and I look forward to working with all of them to make JAID one of the leading journals in the field.”
JAID continues to serve as a vital resource for the instructional design community, advancing knowledge and practice through its focus on applied insights and practical solutions.
