Welcome to the Association for Educational Communications and Technology
Discover the future of teaching and learning with technology
Our members come from around the world and are united in their passion to improve teaching and learning through technology. You'll find our members in higher education, business and industry, k-12, healthcare, nonprofits, the military, and more.
We foster innovation in learning methodologies. As the pioneering professional organization for instructional designers, we uphold high standards of scholarship and practice. Our divisions cover diverse aspects of the field and offer the opportunity for you to find your niche with other subject area experts, and our journal publications promote research and knowledge sharing.
AECT is the place where I share and connect with other people who lead instructional design teams. Come to learn and then learn to connect while you’re here. The learning is robust. These are the people who are going to give you lifelong professional development experiences.

The AECT Foundation supports emerging professionals who will have an impact on education; advances and disseminates knowledge and practice in our field; and develops global connections among professionals and professional practices.
AECT endorses academic programs including both degrees and certificates. Such endorsement is intended to validate the designated programs, which may provide a competitive advantage for the sponsoring institutions.
From time to time, AECT receives formal requests for the purpose of soliciting AECT members to participate in surveys and other studies. Please review guidelines to make formal requests for a research initiative.
One of the goals articulated in the AECT Strategic Plan is to increase the associations visibility by positioning the association as an expert international resource on teaching and learning for policy makers and stakeholders.
This plan offered to AECT members through The Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE) and administered by Forrest T. Jones & Company, a leader in insurance protection for educators with more than 60 years experience.
Effective as of February 16, 2023, these bylaws define the respective roles and responsibilities of the members and officers of the association, authorize meeting and administrative functions, and establish operational expectations to promote the responsible and efficient governance of AECT.
