AECT members contribute research and innovation to an array of peer-reviewed journals, shaping the future of educational technology.

AECT announces board to oversee new Center of Excellence for Publishing

Bloomington, In.  After a competitive recruitment process, AECT has selected members of the advisory board for the newly established Center of Excellence for Publishing. This milestone marks a significant step forward in AECT’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence within the realm of publishing.

Publishing is a career advancement lynchpin for many AECT members, and AECT provides opportunities to publish in several peer-reviewed journals including:

  • Educational Technology Research & Development (ETR&D)
  • TechTrends
  • Journal of Formative Designs for Learning
  • International Journal of Designs for Learning (IJDL)
  • Journal of Applied Instructional Design (JAID)
  • Journal of Technology-Integrated Lessons and Teaching (JTILT)

The journals are available to all AECT members to submit research and emerging work for publication.

AECT also has a robust book series that extends scholarly and practical discourse within the field of educational technology including:

  • Educational Communication and Technology: Issues and Innovations (Springer/AECT)
  • Springer Briefs in Educational Communications and Technology (Springer/AECT)
  • Leadership and Best Practices in Educational Technology Management (Brill/AECT)

The Center of Excellence for Publishing aims to provide high-level oversight of AECT’s journal portfolio and book series.

“AECT has established the new Center of Excellence for Publishing to extend the impact and reach of our journals and book series,” said Nolan Gruver, AECT CEO. “We fully understand the importance that publishing has to our members. We are also excited to provide opportunities for new authors. The Center’s board will advise on publishing opportunities and contracts, streamline AECT publishing processes, and help prepare the next generation of authors and editors for opportunities. It will also focus on transparency of processes for authors.” 

Members of the new advisory board include:

  • Saul Carliner, Ph.D., CTDP Professor and Chair of the Department of Education, Concordia University, Canada
  • Dirk Ifenhaler, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of Learning, Design and Technology at the University of Mannheim, Germany, and UNESCO Chair of Data Science in Higher Education Learning and Teaching at Curtin University, Australia
  • Ahmed Lachheb, Ph.D., Senior Learning Experience Designer at the Center for Academic Innovation at the University of Michigan and Managing Executive Editor of the International Journal of Designs for Learning (IJDL)
  • Christopher T. Miller, Ed.D., Professor of Education and Director of MSU at Mt. Sterling, Morehead State University
  • Anthony Pina, Ed.D., Chief Online Learning Officer and Director of Online Learning Education at the Center for Integrated Professional Development at Illinois State University

“We selected the inaugural board after a rigorous selection process that considered each member’s deep knowledge of publishing,” said AECT President Joi Moore, professor and associate dean for engagement and outreach in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Missouri. “We appreciated the depth of experience and global range of the board members.”

AECT is embarking on an innovative journey to tap into the complete potential of its journal publications. The board will have a special emphasis on equity which is especially important to AECT’s diverse global membership. 

“We appreciated the willingness of the inaugural board members to undertake a lot of detailed work on behalf of AECT members,” said AECT President-Elect Tonia Dousay, dean of the School of Education at the University of Alaska Anchorage. “We fully expect the new center to significantly expand publishing opportunities for our members and the board will be instrumental in realizing the center’s potential impact.”

The board will meet monthly.
