Pre-Summit: Writing Studio Experience

Audience: Pre-Summit participants

This two-day Pre-Summit experience is designed to help participants reposition current work for publication, strengthen editorial strategy, and build clear pathways for both individual and collaborative publishing projects.

Monday – July 13, 2026

Goal: To reposition each participant’s work for publication and secure a clear, time-bound submission pathway aligned with an appropriate outlet.

Overview of the Writing Studio Model + Stage-Based Grouping

Participants assigned to one of four stage-based clusters (5–8 per group):

  • Cluster 1 – Early Stage: early idea, conceptual framing, manuscript in progress
  • Cluster 2 – Under Review / Stalled: revise & resubmit, desk-rejected, stalled manuscripts
  • Cluster 3 – Long-Form & Public Scholarship: book proposals, edited volumes, practitioner briefs, public-facing translation
  • Cluster 4 – Collaborative & Emergent: design cases, secondary data, cross-national comparative work, grant-linked dissemination

Goal: To design and formalize collaborative publication pathways that extend beyond individual projects and contribute meaningfully to the field.

Purpose: Advance a high-stakes section identified during Monday’s Submission Mapping.

This is a seeding session — work continues beyond the Summit. Facilitators open with a 2-minute framing reminder that progress here seeds the months ahead.

Publishing Summit Convening

The Summit Convening brings all participants together for plenaries, workshops, and shared dialogue focused on the structures, tensions, and future possibilities of scholarly publishing in learning, design, and technology.

Wednesday – July 15, 2026

Goal: To provide a soft, unstructured close to the Pre-Summit Writing Studio as the Summit Convening begins to take shape.

Participants are encouraged to use the morning for independent writing — find a café, a quiet corner, the park, or nearby spaces.
